El Algar is in the southeast of the region of Murcia, just a few minutes inland from the Costa Calida coast and the Mar Menor. It is also just 15 minutes drive from the San Javier Airport, making it easy to reach and popular with visitors. The small town is a typical Spanish community with local shops and a few restaurants and bars. Further shops and restaurants can be found nearby at La Union and Cartagena.

The area still retains the essence of authentic Spain and is not over-developed. The Mar Menor and the La Manga Golf Club and Resort are close by where many shops, restaurants and bars can be found. La Manga Resort also has a luxury spa, tennis and football academies and some of the best golf in the area. Further afield there are five other golf courses including the Haciendo del Alamo Golf Club which boasts the longest layout in Spain. La Serena Golf Club is located along the Mar Menor and Roda Golf and Mosa Trajectum Golf Club also have excellent amenities close to El Algar.

The area has superb sandy beaches and crystal clear warm waters for bathing, swimming, boating, windsurfing, jet skiing and generally enjoying the year-round sunshine. Quieter sandy coves can be found further along the coastline for those who prefer a quieter lifestyle.

El Algar is ideally located for those who enjoy walking and cycling in this lovely area of Spain. The Sierra Espuna National Park has some stunning scenery and the Sierra de Carrascoy has a mountain range which is a paradise for walkers, nature lovers and climbers.

The historic city of Cartagena is just 14km from El Algar and offers great shopping, museums, churches, boat trips around the port and superb local restaurants.
