Destination Information

La Unión is located about 12 km east of Cartagena on the N-332, a little way inland from the beautiful beaches of the area. Once a flourishing silver mining town in the 19th century, La Unión is now a pleasant town of around 15,000 residents.

The hills above the town offers great walking and at the Hermitage of the Virgin del Rosario there is a viewing platform which affords spectacular views of the town and surrounding area. La Unión celebrates several annual festivals. The most famous is the Festival of the Cante de las Minas (Festival of the Mine Songs) which is held every August in the Market hall. As well as demonstrating local flamenco dancing, visitors will hear artists from all over Spain perform “cante hondo” or deep singing.

The town has two banks, several local shops, cafés and restaurants including the Restaurante El Vinagrero and the Venta El Descargador.

There are 5 main golf courses in the region. La Manga Golf Club is the most well known; the Haciendo del Alamo Golf Club boasts the longest layout in Spain and La Serena Golf Club is located along the Mar Menor. Roda Golf and Mosa Trajectum Golf Club also have excellent amenities close to La Unión.

The area also offers several museums including the Museum of Wine at Bullas and the Archaeological Museum at Lorca. The historic walled city of Cartagena is close by, offering a host of restaurants and attractions including the Concepcion Castle. Of course, the main attractions to this area of La Manga are the excellent sandy beaches and safe bathing within easy reach of La Unión.
